In completely unrelated news, I give up on the word "short" unless I am using it to describe myself.

Every time I think "I'll just write a short..." I end up with more than 5,000 words.

This time it's been "I'll just write a short smut-fic about [this]" and I am now at ~4,300 word with more to go.

I give up.

As I said to Feather, "I swear I'm a smutty, less-European, less-[educated], pants-at-history Tetley."

I apologise, Tetley, for giving even the slightest indication that my writing could be like your heavenly words. (Especially since, as was proven by a ship-ship-shurray cookie-unicorn, you actually have magical drabbly powers.)

So, because my characters are irking me, I wrote a quick poem :

‘Twas the night before nothing
And all through the house
Not a creature was stirring
Except for one louse:
Her fingers tip-tapped
On the keyboard with care
As she wrote up some smut
And toyed with her hair.
“Why can’t it be shorter?”
She huffed with a sigh,
“I wanted it short but my plan went awry!”
‘Twasn’t her hair that she thought
Needed trimming:
‘Twas the story she wrote
And her mind, which was brimming.
“A drabble or drabblet,
That would have sufficed!
Could you stop bloody talking
And boink? Jesus Christ!”
And down in the pages,
In the land we call Word,
A wand was swish-flicking
And the UST stirred.

I am shaking my head at myself. I need to practise smut-drabbles.

ETA: Well, actually, that's my usual problem. My current one is actually that *gasp* it's gone angsty! Which is usually not something I worry about happening in my fics...

Kiwi, you are writing a story with smut.

You are not writing a smut story.

You wanted to write a smut story and you have faaaaiiiiiled.

So go to sleep you utter loon.

Bear has the solution for when characters won't shut up.

"Stick something in their mouth.

Preferably another character."

PS: Great poem!

I was waiting for my opportunity there (it fits the story to have that action wait). And, honestly, they had done some boinking, but not the full monty that the POV character really really wants. Now I've written that and it's time for two more things... My brain should just stop with ideas.

Hahaha, thanks! I have fun with silly little things like that. I wrote poem-fic once, too, but that was very serious. I haven't written many flat-out silly things...it might be fun. Perhaps the next one!

I stand by what Lash said I said. It's perhaps the only sound bit of writing advice I've ever authored without staling from somebody else.

There might have been one other good idea...perhaps it had something to do with wombats...but I disremember.

Maybe after the pain pills wear off.

I love your poem. Personally I used to write angst until smut broke out, and then I just rode the smut for all it was worth. Damn, but I miss writing fan!fic.

Thank you! I'm not accustomed to writing angst, honestly; I think I've written it in perhaps one or two of my other fics.

I hope this one has a high enough smut-to-angst ratio.

Are you no longer writing fic?

"Are you no longer writing fic?"

I haven't written a fan fic piece in almost a year, maybe more. I think I burned out. Now that I'm trying to do some "serious" writing I find that I have little time to write fanfic, but the desire to do so does creep up on me on occasion.

I'm sorry to hear about your burn-out.

My weird thing is that when I settle into writing "original" fic--serious or not--I end up enjoying fanfiction as quick breaks. Part of me is wondering if the reason fanfic has been such a difficulty for me is because I'm not writing original fic, which is the stuff I write 'just for me' unlike fanfic, which I tend to write for others.

And that is also completely opposite to the way most people function. I think that is becoming a running theme in my life.
