I've made it through my first batch of Beholder fics (14 fics)! That means it's time for a rec post. (: I would prefer to have done this before reveals, of course, but unfortunately there was no time available for reading fic prior to reveals! I'm now managing to go through.

"An Interesting and Difficult Woman" by featherxquill. Ollivander/Muriel. This is pure brilliance. The characterisation of each character mentioned (many Weasleys, some others) is perfect and beautiful, with inspired explanation behind each comment. It was a joy to read through Ollivander's wise eyes. Muriel was a beautiful (and interesting and difficult) woman to behold. Read this fic! Each of the 10,000 words is pure brilliance!

"The Rest of the Mornings in the World" by IJ's lyras. Horace Slughorn/Cornelius Fudge. I am generally not one to read slash, but I promised that through beholder I would open myself up to more fic. I am so very glad I did. This story is excellent. It's hurt/comfort at its very best. Slughorn and Fudge become believable characters in a way they never were to me in canon. I actually became invested in them, their pasts, their present and their future as they did.

"Revolution and Betrayal" by IJ's curia_regis. Peter Pettigrew. Alas, a story that brings me an understand of Peter and his evolution as a character! This story brings light to Peter's story. It rouses sympathy without condoning or excusing or hiding his behaviour: each step into darkness is accounted and the pain behind the action is explained. Highly moving story! Lucius, as always, is a devil dog.

"A Fucking Marvelous Werewolf" by lash_larue. Remus Lupin/Fenrir Greyback. Haunting and accurate point of view. The relationship develops just right: the only way it can, with connection of the inner wolves. This POV of Voldemort and the battles is unique and disturbing in a great way. It also allows Remus to shine in a way he often didn't in canon, yet offers him the same characteristics. Well worth a read if you're ready for something dark and disturbing (goodness knows I always am)!

"Men of War" by miss_morland. Rufus Scrimgeour/Alastor Moody. What a story! These characters finally get their shot in the 3D world, with their flaws and strength, humour and annoyances all lined up brilliantly and often in that perfectly understated way. It was lovely to see them as true characters. Theirs is a story through two wartimes and it is apparent while reading this story; the love that could blossom between them without specific statement is beautiful. Very much a story to read!

That's all from me for now! I'm sure I'll have various recs later - lots of HP at first, I'm sure, then who knows: maybe some Grey's, Glee, random fandoms...a nice variety, I hope. (;
