I've been frustrating myself to no end with resumes and the lot, but I just took a break to go through the Orlando pictures from lash_larue's camera.

I think Lash has taken what is now my favourite photo of me, ever.

It reminds me of the woman I could grow to be. A little (in stature, and naught else) Grubbly-Sprout figure watching in adoration and awe as an alligator ambles by. Also, yes, it's still Florida despite the suit, I assure you. I just enjoyed dressing up for dinner; that night I wore a rainbow tie for a flair of queer eccentricity.

And as for the gator, zir suit required no embellishing:

I didn't ask for zir permission, but ze didn't seem particularly shy and outwitted a few 'gator wranglers, so I don't think ze would really mind the international fame.

For size comparison, although the tail wasn't up. I watched this beauty until ze was completely around the bend (as I have occasionally been accused of myself).

That's all for this narcissistic post. Alas, back to the grindstone with me. I hate resumes. I hate writing introductory emails, too. Especially to an editor of scientific literature. *shrinks*

ETA: I hope you don't mind my posting these, Lash! If you do I'll gladly take them down and apologise profusely!

You look very chic! Based on what little I can see of the gator, ze looks handsome too :-)
Kiwi Crocus: HP || Happy witch hopping.cranky__crocus on October 18th, 2012 11:41 pm (UTC)
Oh, chic! Now there's something I've never heard about myself and never thought I would!

Ze was a very handsome gator, but not as much a fan of chicken as I am. (The wranglers attempted the second capture by using chicken as bait.)
woldywoldy on October 19th, 2012 12:43 am (UTC)
Bah, I laugh at your chicken. My scaly freedom is inalienable!
Kiwi Crocus: Ani D || Grinning.cranky__crocus on October 19th, 2012 12:47 am (UTC)
Ahahaha, laughing out loud. Looking at that first picture of the 'gator, I can absolutely believe those thoughts.

Great photos! No wonder you all had such a fine time. The alligator is cool, but I admit, it would have given me pause to have him so close and free.

I will say that I was sensibly more interested in getting up close and personal with the little pool lizard than the big, toothy, prehistoric reptile--but I was fascinated nonetheless. I was a good enough distance away and keeping my eye out on Miss M, too. (: I was just glad to see it around after meeting the 'gator wranglers; I kept hoping I'd get to see a real, live one. I can perhaps blame the hours I spent watching Crocodile Hunter in my youth and the fact that Steve Irwin (RIP) and I shared a birthday.

I love the photo of you! Lovely striped trousers and nice suit jacket. Very distinguished. And your hair is gorgeous.

'Gators are fascinating, but I'd want to stay at a more than respectful distance. Preferably with a fence between me and it.

I've read quite a few posts about the Orlando get-together, and it sounds as though a marvelous time was had by all. Hurrah for meeting fandom friends! Especially lucky for those who got to hang out with Miss M. :)
Kiwi Crocus: Nature || Forest of light.cranky__crocus on October 19th, 2012 02:20 pm (UTC)
Thank you! ♥

I was at a respectful enough distance for myself. It was far enough away that I knew even if it lunged, I'd have time to run back to the fenced pool area--but it wasn't showing any signs of aggression or even interest in its surroundings, so I wasn't worried.

Orlando was certainly a marvellous time! And spending time with Miss M was fantastic. (:

Good old General Beauregard! Such fun, the evening he showed up. And that pic of you is great, indeed.

The evening GB showed up completed one of my life goals, so yes, certainly fun for me!

You looked chic for dinner every day! But then you look fetching even in rainbow PJs, so there :-)

That's a great 'gator pic! I haven't had the chance yet to look through the picture CD, but now I really want to!
Kiwi Crocus: Lips || Purple.cranky__crocus on October 19th, 2012 02:23 pm (UTC)
D'awr, thanks Queenie. You're too kind to me. :P I look like a loony in my PJs, but that shall never deter me from wearing them for too much of the day when I'm able too! :B

Mmm, I was late to go through the CD, too. Just ignore the unflattering shots of me. ;D

An aligator is definitely more fun to watch in the lake one is standing at than a water-snake, which I had the misfortune to see to close up in NC *shudders at the memory*.

I am so impressed by your hair-do: you can tame it like that °o° - very professional (the suit helps, naturally), very Irma or Minerva, with the glasses as well....
Kiwi Crocus: Nature || Birds of a feather.cranky__crocus on October 19th, 2012 02:28 pm (UTC)
I agree! I am a fan of snakes, but once I get into firm venomous snake territory, not so much. :P One of the days I was looking out at the water I'm nearly certain I did see a snake, but it was far out in the lake and ducked under. I was veeeery careful the one time I approached the lake!

Thank you, on the hair-do! I wish I had had something other than scrunchies to tie back my hair--a brown elastic, or something, to "hide my work" as we say in the hair communities. It was actually quite simple! Split hair equally in two, tightly braid both sections, tuck a hairstick horizontally through some of each section, wrap braids around stick in whatever design one likes, and secure hair!

I've actually wanted glasses for a long time. I try not to say it now that it's "fashionable" for people to wear fake glasses...but for me it's not just about the look (although I tend to think they make me look older, which I do like since otherwise I tend to look quite young). It's a security thing. It just feels nice and secure to have something on my eyes, something between my eyes and a viewer, that I don't have when I'm not wearing them. I think that's why I wore sunglasses every day--even inside, often even at night--when I was having a very insecure phase in my early teens. Now I don't need to wear glasses (for the security or for my sight), but I do feel much more comfortable in them. It's odd. Especially since, thus far, I'm the only one in my family who has ended up with 20x20 vision. I'm sure at some point I'll at least need reading glasses, since my mother wears them...

I rather like this picture of you too.

These are lovely pictures of both you and GB. You wore several outfits for dinner that were stunning. I am a fan of the rainbow tie! I still think your docs would look dashing with my spurs however.

Ahaha, yes, I imagine you can find an alligator in your state without having to look too hard. Isn't there something like an Alligator Alley somewhere?

You look amazing here.

The only thing that I've noticed about these pics is how close all those houses are. I'm not sure I'd feel at ease with other holiday-ers living so close by. And the lawn is so well kept, too. Very organised, compared to what we have here.
Kiwi Crocus: Nature || Clump of crocuses.cranky__crocus on November 8th, 2012 11:19 pm (UTC)
Thank you, dear! ♥

The lawns were definitely very kept. I imagine, beyond just being a good idea for holiday goers thinking it's a well-kept area, that it's best to keep surprise alligator attacks down. Other surprise critters, too; there are a number there.

I know that in my hometown I'm used to houses quite far apart with woods in-between. After spending time in England, though (and now in Providence), I'm quite used to houses being a lot closer than that and even attached. So it felt just fine to me! It was nice that there weren't many other renters around us throughout the week; we didn't have to worry about the 10pm 'quiet-time' as much!
