Three LJ annoyances of the day:

  • 1) Whole site being down when I wanted to post a yayful magpie post before my nap. However, you are a popular website, websites have their problems and you are generally consistent, so I forgive you.
  • 2) You have (hopefully temporarily) eaten some of my icons. Normally I would go with the forgiveness of #1, but you're messing with my pretties here and I miss them, so forgiveness will be tough...
  • 3) You have to get a paid account for a community if you want to be notified when people comment in journal entries, which means having to 'track' each one separately. Now I know you have to make money, LJ, but for me this is pushing it. I already have a paid account and paid icons and it's all renewed every year. I really don't want to have to pay membership for a community just to have easy access to comment notification! Growls.

And regarding a previous LJ annoyance for many people: are those of you who weren't getting notifications now getting them?

Because I wanted to mention this a while ago but kept forgetting: I ran a test to see if I am getting all notifications (having LJ send notifications to my LJ inbox) and found that I am and have been consistently. I use GMail - I think GMail does not have the problem some other email clients are. Perhaps if you are entirely fed up with not getting notifications, you should sign up for a GMail account, even if you only use it for a while?

I *think* it's free and easy to sign up these days - it wasn't when I first picked one up when GMail started; I had to get an invite. If invites are still required, I think I have a good number of them and would be willing to hand them out. Beyond receiving LJ notifications, GMail is generally a great client IMHO - it's incredibly user-friendly, searchable and customisable. It can also have email sent in from other clients if you provide the address and password, I think - and I believe it can reply from there too if you don't want to give away your new email address (although I'm not positive if I've got that right; I never used the feature). And it has very fun backgrounds. :Þ That is my spiel complete!

In conclusion: yay on you, GMail, and boo hiss boo for the day and money-making schemes, Livejournal!

I'm not getting all of my notifications still, but I'm getting most of them. I actually got one today that's like 2 weeks old - a reply to a comment I left on someone's LJ. I feel bad because it was something I should answer back to, and I should have checked. :-P

Maybe I'll try gmail . . . hotmail is certainly still lagging.

Ah yes, I did hear about some people getting incredibly old notifications! I'm glad you're at least getting them, even if late. (:

I do love Gmail. I used old versions of AOL, yahoo, hotmail, you-name-it-, and though I'm sure they've all changed with updates, I loved Gmail immediately. That was a new experience for me. It seems to have stuck, too, since I've now had it for going on 5 years with the same email name! :P

Re: no. 3 - do you mean you want to receive comments on entries to a certain community, regardless of who made the entry? Or are you talking about your own comm - the one you made recently? Because you'll be the only one posting there, right? So you'll get comment notifications on all your posts, regardless of whether the community is paid or not.

I was talking about my own comm. I commented on my own entry to see if it came through and it didn't...but I tried again using Facebook to comment and it went through. So I guess it just didn't recognise a comment from the entry poster.

Thanks for the reminder! :D

Since about a week I do get notifications again, first some very old ones mixed in with the new ones, now just new ones (I did not get informed about all the old ones, wonder why the few 'made it' into the line again *gg*). I have not really checked if I do get all the new ones, for I had changed my settings so that they appear in my Inbox, too.
