As part of my Getting On My Feet (GOMF?) or Getting My Own Feet (GMOF - I like it more) Day, I have been going through my >200 emails. One of them was from my grandparents.

I know that quite a few of you have the same knee-jerk reaction to dogs that I do (variations of "DOGGIE! :D") or an interest in dog training/tricks ("Just how do they do it?" / "I should teach my dog that trick.) so I am putting the link here.

Click at your own risk - adorable dog to be found.

Now back to loads of emails interspersed with room-cleaning and watching The Hunger which ubiquitousmixie sent me for my birthday. (DMix, I knew as soon as I saw both Catherine Deneuve and Susan Sarandon in the casting intro that I would be dead dead uberdead meat. I am dying a little bit.)

Ooo, that dog is totally clicker trained. It's a type of training that causes them to offer behavior and problem solve to find out what you want. I've done it - it's awesome. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clicker_training
Kiwi Crocus: Lips || Sweet watermelon.cranky__crocus on February 23rd, 2011 07:59 pm (UTC)
Mmm, it mentions clicker training at the end I think - though I could guess from before that as well. Canine science is taught at my high school so we had to learn about training a bit, but I've also been friends with a few gung-ho canine folk. :D I just don't have the patience to attempt properly training a pug... :Þ

I'm mainly in the "I should teach my dog that! ...but wait I am way too lazy" school of thought here, with a primary place in "DOGGIE! :D" I'm not hard to please. :B
101mutts: Border Collie101mutts on February 25th, 2011 09:33 pm (UTC)
Clicker training is definitely not trained at the Aggie, however! There are students who use it but teachers don't talk about it. (though I know you weren't implying, just thought to point it out)
Kiwi Crocus: Nature || Black cat.cranky__crocus on February 25th, 2011 09:40 pm (UTC)
*Throws hands up in the air.* I know, I know, I promise! :P But you weren't the only student to arrive at class early or stay late, gabbing with teachers and other students. I will admit that I did actually spend more time in Animal than I strictly needed to - but don't you go telling anyone! Watson would kill me if she found out I gave up some Plant time for the Animal Building. (; (Especially after Animal tried to steal me...) In my time it was mentioned in the way that bonsai care was mentioned in plant - not in the curriculum, but something occasionally spoken about; although I admit any bonsai talk was usually my fault. :Þ

Goodness knows what they ever talked about in the Mechanics building - even when I was there and being spoken to I seldom knew what the topics were. :B

Yes, The Hunger is squirm-worthy. There is a brief bit where something dissolves to a steak being cut that is worth a replay or two...

Hmm. I must not have got to that part. I will have to speak with you when I have. :P

asldkjalskdjlaksjd!!

Lash I am as dead as that steak. Guuuuh wibble wibble wibble. Their comments back and forth to each other over the piano? About the song?

I knew I was going to be dead as soon as I realised Susan Sarandon wasn't wearing a bra. And the whole runs-fingers-through-hair. And letting the hair own. And shoes. How can one scene have pretty much ALL MY KINKS AT ONCE?

It's not fair. And is why I am so so dead right now. Nope, no DiaCon for me, because I am dead.

A marvelous bit of filmaking there. Of course those two together...

Mmmm....The Hunger. It does dirty things to my brain. *squirms*

I hope you enjoy all of the films!

My brain is beyond dirty. My brain is dead. D-e-d dead. :Þ

I have a feeling I will very much enjoy all the films, especially now that my attention has been drawn to the Catherine-Kate similarity of expressions. I love when that happens - it's like watching two of my favourite actresses be sexy at once.

Belle de Jour can be a little triggery but it's so so so hot so it's worth it. I'll have to send you more films soon :D

I think I can handle a little triggery for a lot hotness - it's a fair trade. (; Oh oh oh films! They're always such good treats for when I accomplish things. I'll have to buy some CDs so I can teach myself to burn films for you! I don't have many, though, and I'm sure you've seen all of them already... but we can have a chat about such things and see! :D

I had to watch that gif a few times to figure out which one of the lovely ladies it was. :P

You are, in fact, the only flisty who made me abandon the suave, mature approach a Snapish one strives for.

Also, if you have time, hop over to my latest post. We need an animal expert there. miss_morland and I are out of our scholarly French Master depths. She less so than I, of course. Still, we could do with a word of wisdom.

I am incredibly pleased to know of this and will try not to exploit it in the future. I am forever reminded that your suave, mature, Snapish approach is always right around the corner. (;

I have hopped over. Thank you for that! Another reason to love my flist - inspiring me to go research snails for half an hour and remembering just why I love science.

XOMG, what a cute little show-off!

I'm scared to teach my goonies how to open, close, or untie anything, though. They would get into so much trouble with it.
Kiwi Crocus: Lips || Sweet watermelon.cranky__crocus on February 24th, 2011 01:18 am (UTC)
Hahaha I know right?!

I was wondering as I watched this if the dogs would then be able to think of these things to do as problem-solving devices. Learning a trick is one thing (as we all learn from school), but learning where to actually apply it is another. I know that crows and other birds like that can actually problem-solve...I wonder how many dogs who learn tricks like this can actually use them to solve problems!

(I have the distinct feeling that my dog would not...)

GOMY / GMOF day is an excellent idea - go you for getting stuff done. I should follow your example :-)
Kiwi Crocus: Rainbow || Keys.cranky__crocus on February 24th, 2011 12:55 pm (UTC)
It was a pretty good thing for me to do! I didn't get as much done as I had hoped - I wanted to get some university work done - but I did get to catch up on some things in life, and that made me feel better. I hate feeling behind on communities and with correspondence.

Good luck with your own GMOF day, if you do one soon! :D

Glad you liked it! :D I think if I were ever to do any sort of training, I'd go for clicker training too. (:

Yes, this video definitely has all the makings for 'too adorable for words!' :Þ

I love Heather and Jesse! What I find impressive is not the tricks themselves but the shear number of tricks he can do!

It takes me several weeks to a few months to teach Tom anything well. We're currently working on "pickpocket". :P He's totally able to steal money from a back pocket but isn't the least bit discreet about it.
