Here is one example of how not to write a dissertation:

He opened the door to find her standing there, crying
In the valley of intention the swarms soaked lying;
She stared into the darkness.
Under the cover of death the poets fade;
She was this disjointed royalty made
Through cruel and mindful loyalty...

The crown affix’d her head was tumbling tumbling down
But weighted faster faster was her crumbling frown;
She stared into the darkness.
And as the stars began to fade with haste
She knew she'd best be off and keeping pace
But cruel and mindful loyalty...

For if the captain falls with ship
Then surely princess takes a dip
When her walls tumble down.
When soldier sword is set to gleam
Through dark that it is to redeem,
The princess should abide her crown.

Her pawns were set to jump as high as she commanded
And yet with swords they fought as bards across the land did
When against a dragon's fire.
No training or steel was adequate yet
To slay a dragon with skills well-met
And thus the cruelty did transpire.

The princess, not set for a life in a tower,
Did take up a sword at the bloodiest hour
When against a dragon's fire.
She was bold of heart and tenacious of mind
So she bypassed the core and left this dragon blind
And thus the cruelty did transpire.

For if the captain falls with ship
Then surely princess takes a dip
When her walls tumble down.
So though her garb of stitch and seam,
She'll always set out to redeem
Her rightful reason for the crown.

Yet he opened the door to find her standing there, crying
In the valley of intention the swarms soaked lying;
She stared into the darkness.
Under the cover of death the poets fade;
She was this disjointed royalty made
Through cruel and mindful loyalty...

First few lines are edited randomly-generated lines. I thought I'd start a song/poem with generated lines, on a lark. Not to be taken too seriously!

Now perhaps if the dragon is symbolic of my dissertation... Still, I'd rather have it done than blinded or dead, I think. And I dread to think the lost pawns and soaked swarms would be the summation of my sanity gone.

But no, no sanity to be left behind! (I don't have enough for that; limited reserves, I'm sure you all know how that goes.)

So, uh, I don't usually do poetry, and I'm generally not fond of my poetry (I just enjoy reading it out loud), but it's February Album Writing Month so I wrote a strange ballad-poem-song that maybe someday will have a little music and maybe someday won't. I figure that whatever creativity I squeeze out during my dissertation is a Good Thing, musical or no.

And now back to my scheduled program: dissertation. (Can I get a *GROAN*?)

Ugh yes.

I have a deadline for myself of having some 'substantial writing' done tonight. So even though it's my housemate's birthday and all the housemates + friends are all in the living room watching Tron, I'm here with my laptop also doing dissertation.

I have so many gifs appropriate for my dissertation. At that moment, Shane seemed most appropriate. :Þ
