Some of those sound fascinating! Why are there so many more awesome-sounding books than there is time to read them?

For serious, I have plans to write a lot less and read a lot more this year. Gotta keep putting the new ideas in, you know?

I just got a nonfiction book called Sex at Dawn, which I'm pretty excited to read.

I know! It's frustrating because I'm back Stateside and now many of those books are in my shelf right next to me as I sleep, and I'm so tempted to just pick them up or put them in my suitcase...but I know it's a bad idea because I have little enough time when I'm HERE, and I have little time when I'm back in the UK doing the 'university thing'. So blech. I want to have time to read again!

At this point I'm not doing much reading OR writing, so I feel pretty shoddy about that. I really miss doing both and have felt myself lose some skills with both. Last night I was trying to read and found myself losing attention, not reading quickly and having to re-read lines or paragraphs--and that was Harry Potter, something I used to read through in no time. I think it's a skill that can diminish a little if it isn't practised enough.

Oh! That book looks like a fun read!

I'm tempted sometimes to start up a reading community for people who just want support in reading more - not necessarily a book group or anything, because we'd all be reading different books, but just, like, a support group for people who were once voracious literary caterpillars and now in their adult literary butterflies have not been around enough reading.

I like that idea! I'd join. :)

I didn't read or write much when I was in school, either -- or for a couple of years before that, when I had just bought a condo and gotten dogs. It's so, so easy to do. But one of the things I'm enjoying finding out more recently is that it's not a one-way trip: you probably haven't stopped reading or writing, you're just in a place where you're not able to do it much now. But you can come back around again and start back up!

*\o/*

thats me cheering you on. you and your way more impressive sounding than mine book list. ;)

you could always be like ... 100,000 words of fanfic = 1 book and just count how many "books worth of fanfic" you read? you're still reading stuff, innit that the point? ::tickles::

Teeheehee. I love that. *\o/* Adorable! Thanks. :D

I'm sure your book list sounds impressive enough. (: Plus, I'm sure the day I FINALLY get through that list, my new list will be rather less impressive. :B Except for when I (equally FINALLY) decide to tackle lots of classics that I've always wanted to get around to reading.

Hmm. I may just do that. I do tend to read a lot of shorter books too, so I may go with 50,000 (which is a NaNo WriMo novel) or 75,000 (which is a pretty reasonably-sized novel). It is important for me to understand that when I spend hours reading and reviewing fanfiction, I am still reading in the normal way and even reviewing as I go along, so it really should be included!

You have some good books on your list.

Thank you! I always love your book lists, so feel free to suggest books any time!

Aww.

I think you'd like Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic by Alison Bechdel. It is memior and has some wacky stuff and some heavy stuff, including stuff about her coming out. It is graphic-novel which tend to be quick reads for me.

That is ambitious!
